ELON MUSK - WORK IN PROGRESS

Ever since Elon Musk went on the Joe Rogan Experience, we got a more personal understanding of what Elon Musk has been doing in his free time. If you haven’t already listened or watched the interview; stop what you’re doing and check out JRE #1169 on YouTube. Nonetheless, on the podcast we get a glimpse of Elon sipping on some whiskey and passing a blunt around. Soon after the podcast went viral, Tesla’s stocks surged quite a bit and Elon is now taking a financial hit for statements he made on twitter about taking Tesla private at $420 a share. Call it what you want, rarely do we get to see someone of his caliber so blunt and transparent and I think that’s something admirable, especially when you’re a fucking genius to say the least.

That being said, what is the trajectory of Elon Musk’s endeavors and where does that leave the rest of us? To first understand where Elon is headed, we must understand where he came from. Born to a South African Father and Canadian Mother, Elon was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. By age 10 he had already uncovered a proficient understanding of computer science; he explains in the podcast how he suspected his mind worked differently than those his age but kept that to himself. 2 years later he wrote the code for a space based video game called Blastar. At 17 he was studying at Queens University in Canada before ultimately graduating with a degree in Economics and physics from the University of Pennsylvania. By 1995 he dropped out of college to embark on his entrepreneurial journey and co-founded a web-software company that was later sold to Compaq for around $340 million. Soon after, he founded an online banking website called X.com which we now know to be PayPal. eBay later acquired PayPal for $1.5 billion. By age 31, Elon founded SpaceX, Tesla and Solar City.

What Now?

We are already closer to colonizing Mars than when the market crashed in 2008. With success and setbacks, SpaceX has already revolutionized the aerospace industry by creating reusable rockets. To top it off, Elon mounted and launched his unreleased Tesla sports car along with the rocket, set to orbit the sun. If you want a better idea of how that’s going, click here.

SpaceX’s first cargo drop-off mission is set for 2020 and Elon is planning to send his first crew to Mars by 2024. SpaceX should have its place in the red planet by the year 2030. In a recent press conference, Elon mentioned he’s sending Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa to the orbit around the moon. Yusaku is taking along with him a group of artists that he feels can use the experience as a source of creative inspiration. The most recent launch, 6 days of the writing of this blog post was the SAOCAM 1A Mission. SpaceX successfully launched a rocket carrying an Argentinian Earth Observation Satellite that beautifully lit up the West Coast sky. Here’s a video recap.

Merging sustainable transportation with affordability is not an easy task to accomplish, but Tesla is on a mission to make that a norm. Tesla having already surpassed General Motors as the most valuable U.S car manufacturer is an understatement as to what the company can achieve.

The Tesla model S and X were proven (SOURCE) to have the lowest chances of injury in all cars tested and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Model 3 achieved a perfect 5-star safety in all categories. Who doesn’t like a safe car that’s also undeniably S3XY? We are also expecting to see all electric semi-trucks in production by 2019 and the fastest production car, The Tesla Roadster in 2020.

Entrepreneur, Visionary, Genius, Pioneer

"When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor.

We're going to make it happen. As God is my bloody witness, I'm hell-bent on making it work."

- Elon Musk -

Elon has high expectations for the future of Tesla as he is predicting to mass produce his Model 3 sedan to reach every country in the near future. Despite struggling to reach short-term production goals, the company is evolving without a doubt. In 2016, Elon merged his solar panel manufacturing company, SolarCity, with Tesla to create an all-in-one sustainable powerhouse. With Tesla Solar now in play, fully solar powered roofs are readily available to change the future of energy consumption in our homes. Also, by 2020 Tesla’s giant lithium-ion fueled factory will be finalized and expects to reduce the overall cost of production for Tesla and other products. Elon’s aim to lower the cost of electricity and being the largest supplier seems a little far fetched but a brighter future is very probable.

Through his company, Elon has implemented his technology to aid countries in times of crisis and electricity problems. In 2017, he sent over 1000 Tesla Powerwall batteries to restore power in Puerto Rico after it was hit by Hurricane Maria. Puerto Rico endured a 7 month power outage and Elon stepped in to deliver power to 622 areas all over the island. Also, when South Australia’s transition from Coal powered energy to Wind energy failed, Elon planted a giant battery to provide them a better source of renewable energy.

Elon always finds a way to combat real world problems with his creativity. In 2016 he founded the Boring Company which is in the works of constructing The Hyperloop, an underground tunnel system created from his frustration with Los Angeles traffic. The man began by digging holes in his backyard in search for solutions. The company also instantly sold out 20,000 “non-flamethrowers” and is in the works of creating life size LEGO-like blocks to create buildings.

Venturing into the world of Artifical Intelligence that same year, Elon and a group of partners started Neuralink in hopes of merging humans and technology to further enhance the way we think. By creating implantable interfaces, Neuralink aims to enhance the human brain, cure brain diseases and if you’re up for the challenge, they’re currently looking for experienced engineers and computer scientists. You might think, what the actual fuck? Imagine thinking about making coffee and then it being simultaneously made while processing that thought; basically remote controlling with your mind. Pretty gnarly stuff.

Nothing to Lose.
Everything to Gain.

Despite his success as an entrepreneur, it came at a price. Like many entrepreneurs and successful people, success doesn’t come without failure. Elon has faced numerous setbacks on his journey to the top. In 1996 he was removed from his CEO position at Zip2. 4 years later he was fired from PayPal while on his honeymoon and that same year he contracted deadly malaria. SpaceX had about 6 launch failures over the years and was on the brink of bankruptcy along with Tesla in 2008. Even recently, the Securities and exchange commission penalized him due to a tweet he posted about taking Tesla private, costing him his position as Chairman of Tesla and $20 million in fines. Despite the setbacks, his innovative spirit remains strong.

Standing on The Shoulders of Giants
(Entrepreneurs)

How he makes time to develop all his business ventures while devoting time to his five kids is beyond me; but one thing to take note on has to be his work ethic. As entrepreneurs, we know that building a reliable work ethic takes a tremendous amount of effort, sweat and tears. Even though Elon Musk might drink way more than the recommended amount of caffeine, sometimes 100 hour work weeks is the only way to get things done. It doesn’t only take hard work; being efficient and well organized is just as important. According to IndependentUK, the secrets to Elon Musk’s 18 hour work days are the following:

1. Combining many tasks together to increase efficiency, also known as Batching.

2. Spend on what matters the most. Instead of spending more on advertising and marketing; make your product better.

3. Feedback is key. Get as much critical feedback as possible. It’s the only way to improve and freshen up your ideas.

4. Working around an organized schedule. Elon keeps busy only by organizing his life around his work. Having a daily planner can be a useful tool if used consistently.

5. Being smart is great, but even Elon needs a team of talented individuals to work with. Surround yourself with the best in order to achieve greatness.

6. Take risks. Entrepreneurs like Elon always take risks and back it up with everything mentioned above. It’s really the only way to make it to the top.

"There have to be reasons that you get up in the morning and you want to live. Why do you want to live? What's the point? What inspires you? What do you love about the future? If the future does not include being out there among the stars and being a multi-planet species, I find that incredibly depressing."

ELON MUSK x ENTRPRNR

One of the many reasons the ENTRPRNR team identifies with Elon is because of his humanitarian involvement. Elon’s focus is designing companies that progressively lessen our impact on the environment and improve societal functionality. In a market-based economy like the United States, it is far more impactful for a company to seek out solutions to real world issues that help the environment as opposed to a company driven by money, power and greed. Elon’s impact on the American economy is significant having created jobs for over 30,000 employees in the United States alone and progressively expanding globally. Overall, Elon Musk’s push for innovation has paved the way for new technologies and continues to inspire entrepreneurs to take it upon themselves to innovate, expand and dominate.

Whether you perceive the future to be a glass half full or a glass half empty; overpopulation, poverty, poor waste management, and a lack of infrastructure in numerous countries might spook you. But quite frankly, having a highly-intelligent individual like Mr. Musk that fears nothing but failing to actualize his innovations makes the glass a little less empty. Whether he’s here for a good time or a long time, you must give the lad some worldly credit, because for all we know he might just save humanity from destroying itself.
